Exams, exams...

The long awaited week of intensive exams for TK is finally here... really dread the "endless" days yet really look forward to it being over. Tomorrow, his paper starts 9 am and ends only at 9 pm. Charis will probably not get to see him at all so she gave Daddy a loving hug of encouragement before she went to bed tonight :) Charis and I will be right behind you...

Friday, 9 January, 12 noon... can't wait! We'll have our little celebration to welcome 2009 then!

The Meaning of Snowflakes

Snow, snow, snow... we had lots of it on new year's eve. One question Charis likes to ask is "What is snow for?". Just want to share with you a beautiful poem that so aptly answers this question... 

"Every new snowflake comes to the earth

as a picture of our Saviour's birth;

because they are sent from up above

and remind us of God's care and love.

Each one is so intricate and small

because Christ sees the details of us all;

and just as two are never the same,

the Lord knows and calls us each by name.

Snowflakes gently cover the world in white

and hide what's unlovely from our sight;

showing us how He covers our sin,

and gives us His grace when we come to Him.

So may every snowflake bring Christ to mind,

and in every bit of white,

may you find a reason to celebrate anew

and a reminder of His love for you."

Can you do this???

Did I laugh? Or crack even the slightest grin (with a slight "oh-bother" eye roll)? Must admit that it's getting more difficult laughing with Charis at her silly jokes or behaviour... it even gets annoying sometimes! Are we too caught up with our pursuit to "do things right", to avoid mistakes and to ensure that her preschool years do not have adverse effects on her 20 years down the road? Charis, don't say silly things or make silly sounds! Charis, don't jump around like this, you'll hurt yourself! Charis, don't play with your food during mealtimes! Hmm... sounds like we need to learn to flex our facial and tummy muscles with her a little more ;p

Read this article - "Lighten Up!" in a mothering magazine. Just what I need to remind myself that I need to do just that and not lose my sense of funny when with her! It says "For it was there (adding laughter, lightheartedness and the joy of taking myself a whole lot less seriously) that my energy renewed, my countenance restored and my relationship with my kids strengthened."

Well, we sure had fun trying this trick that she learnt. Lighten up and hope you have fun too!
