Happy Birthday...

It is good that Charis is coming to age, so that she can do the singing and I just do the taping....

The promise of a rainbow

Since I'm allowed some time by my princess today, I'll write another post. We have been rather sleep deprived these days. Well, we still have quite a bit of fun nevertheless! She has been into face painting... a flower on Monday, a butterfly on Tuesday and today, I painted a rainbow on her cheek. She really likes it :)

She is still "plagued" with fear these days... waking up in the middle of the night crying that she's scared of the bad people in the room... the product of her ever imaginative mind. But in the morning, she would promise not to cry and scream again at bedtime. Tempting as it may be, I know that dismissing her fears, regardless of how irrational it may seem, would not help her. Only God can...

I hope the assurance of God's promise of love and protection will give her peace and good rest in the night.

"I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safely." Psalm 4:8

What we did on February 14

Simple yet quite memorable. I actually made my own birthday cake with my little kitchen assistant! One that I think looks right for a birthday but... erm, didn't quite taste right :p

She made her very own teddy biscuits too! The smiling creator holding up her smiling creation.

TK had a long day in school on Thursday and he made up for it by cooking us dinner the night before... his first in this kitchen.... Really, it's still February 14 right... it's 7 am Singapore time... hehe. Cooking with love :)

We celebrated this day twice actually... in both Singapore and Pittsburgh time! Finally, a family photo!

Sleepy time

"But the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23

When it comes to Charis' bedtime, I really need to constantly ask God for this Fruit. Love, patience, gentleness, self-control... seem to disappear when bedtime gets difficult. Refusing to nap in the afternoons, crying her lungs out at bedtime in the nights wanting TK or I to stay with her because she is afraid of some bad guys from a cartoon she watched recently... ... sigh. Just 3 months ago, we managed to get her to go to bed on her own after a long struggle and now I feel like we're taking several steps back to where we started. She was doing well and I guess we got complacent.

These are her precious sleepy time friends, her night time companions... but tonight, she exchanged them for me so that I could be in the room with her to "protect" her from the bad guys.

She is a "fighter". To look on the bright side, I would say that she is a very determined and persevering little girl. But that also means that it's going to be another tough struggle with her over bedtime. To me, bedtime is probably one of the most trying times. God, please take away this fear that she has... and God, please give me lots of patience, gentleness and self-control.

Happy Lunar New Year to All!

The Lunar New Year is definitely not in the American calendar of holidays.... so it's pretty much quiet. But, when we have a group of Chinese together, it'll be celebration time. Well, at least we try to ;)

We had our reunion steamboat dinner with fellow Singaporeans in CMU... and not missing out the "鱼生" (raw fish salad), tossing to "学业进步" (advancement in one's studies). What can be more appropriate a wish to have than this!

Charis went in her little Chinese top :)

Honestly, we do miss the reunion dinners at home, gatherings with close family and friends, and of course the many Chinese New Year goodies too. It's really times like this that reminds us of how far away we are. In fact, we celebrate it only 13 hours after :p

Well, this is another of our little attempt to build up the festive mood at home...

Chinese New Year is also the Spring festival, isn't it? For the first time, we're experiencing the coming of Spring (erm... not yet but soon!). Despite the lack of celebrations, we're having fun too, with the four seasons!

新年快乐!
